Yappr Safety Guidelines
Yappr connects you with real people for language practice over video. That makes sessions more useful and more human. It also means your safety matters. These guidelines explain what we expect on calls, what crosses the line, and what to do if something feels off.
What Yappr is for
Yappr is built for language exchange. Sessions are meant to focus on practicing speaking, listening, and building confidence in your target language. Real connections sometimes happen, and that is okay. What matters is that everyone feels safe and respected. Unwanted pressure, harassment, or behavior that crosses your boundaries is never okay.
Yappr is for adults. You must be 18 or older to create an account, and accounts we find to belong to minors are removed.
Before your call
- Join from a space where you feel comfortable on camera.
- Dress as you would for a casual coffee chat.
- Let your partner know if you are running late.
- Keep personal details private until you trust someone.
During video calls
- Sessions are centered on language practice, but a natural chat is fine too.
- Be patient with mistakes. Everyone is learning.
- Respect boundaries if someone does not want to discuss personal topics.
- Keep conversation in Yappr until you have built real trust.
- You can leave at any time. No explanation required.
Red flags
Trust your gut. End the call and report anything that feels wrong, including:
- Unwanted sexual comments, nudity, or pressure to show your body on camera.
- Pressure to turn off video, move to WhatsApp, or use a private chat app early on.
- Asking for your home address, workplace, school, bank details, or passwords.
- Requests for money, gifts, or photos.
- Comments that make you uncomfortable about your age, appearance, or identity.
- Behavior that feels like grooming: building trust to manipulate you, isolating you, or pushing boundaries step by step.
- Anyone who seems under 18 or asks whether you are a minor.
- Threats, hate speech, harassment, or repeated unwanted contact after you say no.
This is not okay on Yappr, whether or not you were there to practice a language.
If something feels wrong
- Tap End call immediately.
- Report them in the app. The ⋮ menu next to someone's name — on the call screen, in messages, or on Your People — has Report and Block. Reports go straight to our review queue with the session details attached.
- Blocking is immediate and mutual: they lose the ability to message you, request you as a friend, or join a call with you, and your active match ends.
- Prefer email, or reporting something that happened off-platform? Write to hello@yapprhq.com with your partner's name, the date and time, and what happened.
- Do not feel obligated to continue messaging someone who made you uncomfortable.
- If you are in immediate danger, contact local emergency services in your country first.
Zero tolerance
We may suspend or permanently remove accounts for harassment, sexual misconduct, fraud, impersonation, hate speech, or any attempt to exploit or harm other users. For serious offenses, we may report them to relevant authorities where the law requires it.
Protect your personal information
- Do not share your full address, workplace, or financial details on early calls.
- Be cautious about sharing social media handles until you trust someone.
- Never send money or gifts to someone you met on Yappr.
- Yappr staff will never ask for your password or payment outside official checkout.
What we cannot do
Yappr matches people for language exchange, but we cannot monitor live video calls. You are responsible for your conduct and for deciding whether a session feels safe. These guidelines sit alongside our Terms & Conditions, not instead of them.
